New applicants can apply online, by phone, or in person. However, if you are already an Ontario Works client, your financial need is pre-verified just ask your caseworker for a referral.

A caseworker will contact you within 5 business days of your application to schedule a meeting. You will verify your income and assets, and you will receive a decision on financial eligibility within 15 business days (Please note it may take longer due to Public Holidays, and wait-times).

If you pass the financial check, you are given a medical package. You must take this to a healthcare provider to complete. It proves your medical eligibility for ODSP

Once your medical package is submitted, specialized adjudicators review your file. The standard processing time is approximately 90 business days.

If you are approved, your benefits begin. If you are denied, you have 30 days to request an Internal Review (the first step of the appeal process).
