Step 1: Understand the Types of Adult Incontinence Products
Tabbed Briefs (Adult Diapers)
Open-sided with adjustable tabs. Best for people who need caregiver-assisted changes or have limited mobility. Easy to put on and take off while lying down.
Pull-Up Underwear
Pulled up like regular underwear. Best for mobile individuals who manage some of their own care. More discreet under clothing. Tear-away sides allow for easy removal.
Booster Pads and Insert Pads
Used inside briefs or underwear for extra absorbency. Ideal for nighttime use or extended wear periods when changes aren’t possible.
Underpads (Bed Pads)

- Overnight/Maximum: 8+ hours of continuous wear, heavy leakage
Step 4: Consider Skin Health
Moisture next to skin for extended periods causes irritation and breakdown. Look for products with:
- A quick-dry inner layer that wicks moisture away
- A breathable outer cover
- A wetness indicator (helpful for caregivers managing changes)
Change products promptly when soiled and use a barrier cream to protect skin during each change.
